Dieses Proseminar dient als allgemeine Einführung in die
Geschichte der Türkei im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert. Roter Faden und
thematischer Schwerpunkt ist dabei das Ergehen der jüdischen
Minderheit, die in spätosmanischer Zeit - trotz der Zionismusfrage
- eine vergleichsweise unproblematische "millet" war und im
Nationalstaat nach 1923 gerne als "model community" mit "model
citizens" (Rifat Bali) dargestellt wird. Diese Darstellung verschleiert
indes eine ambivalente Wirklichkeit zwischen "Hofjudentum" und
Antisemitismus. Die dritte Stunde der dreistündigen Veranstaltung
ist als Lektürekurs für Quellen und Sekundärliteratur
gedacht.
